Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar 2025: Celebrating the Power of Photography in Capturing Memory, Belonging, and Cultural Continuity

The prestigious Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar 2025 has unveiled its 2025 edition, a celebration of the power of photography in capturing memory, belonging, and cultural continuity. The festival, led by Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, will feature eight exhibitions in five locations, showcasing the diverse photographic practices and dialogues that have made it a leading event in the Arab world. • Eight exhibitions, each anchored by a lead exhibition, will be presented across five locations, including the Fire Station: Artist in Residence. • The festival will explore themes of belonging, with a focus on the multiple dimensions of this concept, through exhibitions such as As I Lay Between Two Seas at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence. • The event will also feature a selection of documentary artists and photographers, highlighting the diversity of exhibitions in its third edition. One of the lead exhibitions, As I Lay Between Two Seas, will explore the concept of belonging through a poetic and visual narrative. Curated by Meriem Berrada, this exhibition will feature works by twenty-five artists from the Arab world and its diaspora, examining the themes of identity, community, and collective memory.

Other exhibitions will include:

  1. Daoud Aoulad Syad’s Territories of the Instant, a visual exploration of Moroccan landscapes and culture.
  2. Obliteration – Surviving the Inferno: Gaza’s Battle for Existence, a powerful exhibition that captures the devastating war in Gaza through the lens of photographer Dr. Bahaaeldin Abudaya.
  3. Refractions: Tasweer Project Awards, featuring 18 contemporary Arab photographers, winners from 2023 and 2024.
  4. Threads of Light: Stories from the Tasweer Single Image Awards, showcasing 32 winning photographs from 2023 and 2024.
  5. Khalid Al Musallamany’s Garangao 2025, a visual conversation about places of worship in Qatar through the lens of artist Khalid Al Musallamany.
  6. After The Game, highlighting the engagement of photographers and filmmakers with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

In addition to the exhibitions, the festival will offer a range of educational programs, including symposia, masterclasses, and workshops. These programs will be held in partnership with local educational institutions, with a focus on developing photography talent in Qatar.

The exhibitions will be on display at the Fire Station: Artist in Residence, Katara Cultural Village, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, and Msheireb Museums (Company House) until June 20. Visitors can also expect to engage with the festival through a range of activities and events, including workshops and online portfolio reviews.
